The world of soul music was in shock last night at the news that Johnny Moore, lead singer of the legendary group The Drifters, has been given a 5 year jail term for lewd conduct in a public place.
The court heard that Moore, 109, was spotted by a number of passers by cavorting naked with an unidentified female, that he later claimed was his baby, under the boardwalk, down by the sea.
Judge Angelo Franklin, presiding, disregarded Moore's claims that they were falling in love out of the sun, and told him before passing sentence, "Society has earned a break from your activities, you are quite clearly a disturbed and unsavoury character who thinks nothing of having some fun on a blanket with your baby with people walking above"

This is Moore's 2nd similar offence following a 9 month spell in jail in 1965 for gross indecency up on the roof.
In other news, soul icon Otis Redding has been given a 12 month suspended sentence for loitering. This followed complaints by local residents in the 'Frisco Bay area that he was spotted on a number of occasions sitting on the dock of a bay watching the ships roll in and then watching them roll away again.
Reading, 201, spoke to reporters outside the court and said "I knew I should never have left my home in Georgia"
