Self-Published Writer Receives Rejection Slip

Clive Danton - Jan 2015

A 63 year old British man has become the first writer of a self-published book to receive a rejection slip from a so-called 'vanity publisher' since the option of paying to have a piece of writing published, as opposed to having work accepted and distributed by a publishing house, became popular around 10 years ago.

The unnamed man, who had penned what he termed, 'A wild and wonderfully weird journey through time and space' has now gone into hiding and refuses to be interviewed, but we did manage to get a brief statement from 'Intelligentsia', the eBook company who made the decision to reject his novel.

'To be perfectly honest we normally take on anybody, no matter how poorly written or otherwise bereft of quality the copy submitted . However on this occasion the piece was so utterly lacking in any semblance of merit we decided to send this poor fellow his money back. It truly was absolutely abysmal, and to be perfectly honest, I think we've done this chap a favour in the long term. His friends and family would have undoubtedly disowned him, and if his employers had got wind of it, I'm pretty certain he'd have lost his job'.
